January 1

Written by Bill Grandi on January 1st, 2019

I was going to wait a day or two before journaling in 2019 but I can’t. After reading about leprosy and skin diseases in Leviticus, I was groaning: “How much more of this?” Then I read Psalm 1-2 and Proverbs 1.

Psalm 1 always does a number on me. Especially verses 1-3. Verse 2 hit my fancy this morning: “But his delight is in the law of the Lord and on his law he meditates day and night.”

Combine that with Proverbs 1:7- “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

As I begin 2019 I need to ask myself where my focus is. Do I take delight in God’s Word? If Pr.1:7 is true (and I believe it is), then my foundation for life has to be the wisdom and knowledge of God. His wisdom is found in the Scriptures. But if I don’t delight in the Word then my basis is shaky. Part of living in the shadow is living in His Word.

“Father, may Your Word be my delight this year (and always). Psalm 119 says, ‘Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.’ It also says, “Oh, how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day.’ (119:97) As I read your Word; as I search Your Word; help me to see Your wisdom. Help me to apply that to my daily walk with You.”

Thanks Martha. But I can’t take credit for that. One night last week I sat down with Ryan (techgeek) and fleshed out the header. He did all the work while I saw amazed. Since then he has designed it as you see it. I love it!

    Bill,
This dovetails nicely into my devotion today…
For the new year I just started A Shelter in the time of Storm.
It is an in-depth devotional around Psalm 27.
The challenge that was raised is on the changes I need to make in my daily life to be lifelong student.
This goes right along with seeking wisdom and instruction… Not being a fool.
Secondly…identifying areas where I really need to dig in more deeply.
it’s one thing to say I am a student… or that I seek wisdom and instruction. I need to plan to be a student. I need to plan to seek the wisdom and instruction.
Trying to start the year right… as a student, seeking God’s infinite wisdom and meditating on it.

Glad to hear you are starting that book. It is a gold mine for me. I also appreciate your thoughts on being a student. I am convinced the moment I stop being a student and think I know it all I will begin to die. Hope we can learn together.

Excellent prayer and wisdom, Bill. I’m with you. I long for the same thing in my spirit.
