What’s it like to take an honest inventory? Tripp shows me and at the same time includes me.

I wish I could say:

• All my actions are godly
• I always live with God’s Kingdom in view
• All my responses to people are motivated by love for God
• Awe of God was my principal motivation
• I love God’s glory more than my own
• Selfishness and greed are in the rearview mirror
• I have a heart of submission
• I always exhibit the fruit of the Spirit
• Materialism does not capture my heart

There are more (6). My response? “I wish…but I can’t.” I’m too wrapped up in my own little world. But as Tripp says, “All this means is I value justifying grace.”

So he lists a few things he’s thankful for:

• The perfect life of Christ
• He subjected Himself to the temptations of this world
• He took my stripes and carried my guilt and shame on the cross
• He took the Father’s rejection
• He burst out of the tomb
• His righteousness is attributed to my account
• He fulfilled the Law and satisfied the Father’s anger.

“Father, I wish…but I’m also thankful. Short of words thankful. So please accept my thanks, my gratitude, for Your acceptance.”
