I wear glasses. I have a love/hate relationship with them actually. I have been wearing them since 4th grade when Miss Kutzer noticed me squinting to see the board. So my mother took me to Dr. Braveman and he said, “Son, you’re going to need glasses.” When I got them it was amazing how close and how sharp the carpet was. In spite of this, I did not wear my glasses to school because I thought they made me look ugly. (No comments). But Miss K saw me and said, “Bill, weren’t you supposed to get your glasses yesterday?” “Yes ma’m.” “Where are they?” “At home.” “I want you to wear them tomorrow.” I did. She could have asked me anything! 🙂
My eyes have continued to get worse. Glasses. Contacts. Glasses. Contacts again. Glasses. Maybe surgery for cataracts. Astigmatism. But with each exam a new scrip. Even though I hate those glasses, they are absolutely essential. They help me see. Things are clearer, sharper, more definitive than before. And without them? Can you say “blind as a bat?”
The gospel gives perspective on life. Things change. Things become clearer. Sharper. I’m certainly not perfect so there are time my vision clouds or gets fuzzy. But God keeps drawing me back to Him. He gives me a new scrip to help my sight and my perspective.
“Father, you placed me where I am, right where you want me to be. Thanks for the eyes and thanks for the glasses (the gospel) to see more clearly.”

Had to wear glasses/contacts all my life, Bill, so I can definitely relate. And yes, the Gospel certainly hone our vision to see God more clearly.
Blessings!
Great analogy!
And I can relate to both being blind as a bat without my contacts and seeing clearer and clearer as wisdom comes.
