March 17

How great is our God, sing with me/How great is our God/And all will see, how great how great is our God

Those words of a song written by Chris Tomlin, Jesse Reeves and Ed Cash and recorded by Chris Tomlin in 2004 is still as popular today (maybe more) as it was when first released. That song came to mind this morning as I was reading Psalm 145. I’d like to encourage you to stop and read it on your own, but here are a few reasons why that song came to mind and why our God is so great.

1. No one can measure his greatness. (Verse 3)

2. He is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is good to everyone. He showers compassion on all his creation. (Verses 8-9)

3. He keeps His promises; and is gracious in all He does. (Verse 13)

4. He is righteous in all He does; He is filled with kindness. (Verse 17)

The real truth is found in #1: no one can measure His greatness. I picked just 4 out of this chapter. I’m sure you could find more. But in reality, no one can measure His greatness. Go ahead and try.

Prepare to have your mind blown.

  1. This is one of my favorite praise songs because it simply glorifies and worships God. Sometimes songs can have complicated rhythms or sermonizing words. This one just gets to the nitty gritty—like Psalm 145!

  2. That song is one of my all-time favorites that Danny and I still sing in church, Bill. The lyrics about our great God never cease to blow my mind. Blessings!

I sing it to but Martha but I’m glad God simply says, “Make a joyful noise.” 🙂 I’m sure you and Danny do it much better than me.

I am reading from the ESV this morning, verse 3 translates… Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable.

This verse stopped me in my tracks this morning literally… What came to mind is the Internet, AI, and the ability to have information at our fingertips. —Note Information is not necessarily truth.

    His greatness is unsearchable…

We can’t “Hello Google” God’s greatness
    We can’t “Alexa” God’s greatness.

God’s greatness is only found in a personal and intimate relationship with our creator God Who Was and Is and Will Forever Be – Amen.

    • Bill Grandi says:

WELL SAID Ryan. And in such a unique way. But I’m with you on the personal and intimate relationship. Thanks

I love that psalm. I was reading in my Charles Spurgeon, Bible this psalm today, and the study notes hit me hard. He says” Do you bless God everyday in your prays. Is praise as certain and constant a practice with you as prayer.” It’s a reminder to me that I can never give God enough praise. My prays should start out with praise and end in praise. Reading my Bible should start with praise and end with praise. Everything should be tied to praise and worship for God, and today I am reminded I fall short of that praise. In my prayers to keep all of my thoughts captive with God, I should be adding to bless and praise God to be the thought that is constantly on my mind and in my heart always.

Thanks for adding Spurgeon’s quote to the discussion Gail. He is indeed worthy of our praise and our lives should start and end with it. our days should start and end with it. Thanks for adding to this discussion.
