First Sunday of 2025. Predicted possible snow accumulation: 5-8″. Some say even more. Oh yay. (Notice the tongue-in-cheek)
My theme for the year is, as you can see, Burning Hearts. You can also see it is from Luke 24:32. For those who may not know, I decided to do something totally different this year. It is something I have NEVER done before. Using the Everyday Gospel Devotional (EDG) by Paul David Tripp as a guide, I am planning to preach each week on the previous week’s reading. The people of OVCF and some friends have also made a commitment to work their way through the devotional as well as reading through the Bible through 2025. (As an aside: we ordered 135 books to distribute!). Reading the Bible is a daunting task. Many start out with the best of intentions, but soon schedules, boredom (the OT can do that in places), other interests, and life get in the way. Needless to say, I am hoping we can all stick with it. It will certainly make a big difference in our lives.
This Sunday is the start of it all. The January 1-4 reading of EDG involved reading Genesis 1-15. Creation. Adam & Eve. Cain and Abel. Noah and the flood. God’s covenant with Noah. The Tower of Babel. The call of Abram. God’s covenant with Abram. Lots of good stuff and that is not all of it! Due to the denseness of the happenings, I have chosen to hit the highlights. I’ve titled my sermon Just the Facts.
You may not be able to attend in person but you can join us via live stream. You can send a request to join our Facebook Group at Owen Valley Christian Fellowship or view our public page (Owen Valley Christian Fellowship-Spencer, In). Or you can join us on YouTube at Owen Valley Christian Fellowship. If you do join us please feel free to comment. If you can join us we normally meet at 9:00 and 10:45. That is, of course, weather permitting. Please check with us about this Sunday. I look forward to hearing from you!
We will have to miss our service at church this Sunday because Danny has had Covid – I know, what a year! I will attempt to watch your service via YouTube this Sunday.
Blessings, Bill!
Oh man! That stinks but i appreciate you watching!
Looking forward to this. Have not done much since Dec 19 as I took a hard fall in our kitchen while working with Bernice’s German Shepherd on some of his bad habits. I landed on my right hip and it hurt. I got up after a couple of minutes and could stand and walk so I was pretty sure nothing was broken. I ended up with the largest contusion I have ever seen and I’ve seen several. I am healing up but it has been slow. I am blessed I didn’t break my hip.
I’m glad you are ok to Dexter. As i read this you know by now we aren’t meeting in person tomorrow. But I hope you will get a chance to watch the live stream
Hello Bill, been missing your words of wisdom. Have taken some time off from blogging just to free my mind of task needing done. I do not like thinking about reading someone elses blog as a chore. I am always blessed with so many that I follow. I did decide to not follow those who are not a Jesus person for a while. I hope all in your family is well, the church is well. The little church we attend has been in a growth since Covid. Our pastor is a great teacher so the ones who came because of their former church requiring mask to attend have stay I think because of the good teaching, or because they are too embarrassed to go back to former church. Who in the world but God knows the heart of us frail humans. I am still doing a ladies bible study once a week which is the highlight of my week. Just wanted drop in and say hello and I will be back now that I am in a better place health wise. blessings brother.
If is good to hear from you Betty! I wondered if you had decided to just stop blogging or had some life stuff (as we all do). I had knee replacement surgery on 11/11 so it will be 8 weeks Monday. You can read about it if you have the time to read any past blogs. 🤷🏼♂️ I’m glad you are in a better place as well. Good has been blessing the church and continues to amaze me. We are using Tripp’s new devotional EveryDay Gospel Devotion as a church family. I’m preaching through the Bible this year using it as a guide. You can read about that as well. Take care and may you and Ace know God’s blessings in 2025
