If someone were to pin me down and ask me what is my favorite passage of Scripture, I would be hard-pressed to find just one.
Probably my favorite single verse is Psalm 37:5- “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and he will bring it to pass.” My way is to be His way. The NLT says, “Trust Him, and he will help you.” That sort of clarifies that last phrase for me.
But probably, in my mind, the greatest long form Scripture is Romans 8. There is so much there it is like a mine that needs to keep being mined. There is more treasure to be found! I especially like verses 28-29 with the promise of being conformed to the image of Jesus. But verses 31-39 are the highlight. {Take a moment and read them right now}. To know God is for me. To know God stands with me. But what can be greater, more refreshing, more satisfying than to know that nothing can separate me from God’s love? I know of N.O.T.H.I.N.G.
To know that I am going to face all kinds of loss, trouble, and disappointment is one thing, but to know that it will never separate me from the Father’s love is overwhelming.
There is something special in knowing I will not be severed from Him. No one will snatch me out of His hand. Nothing in this world or another world can sever our bond.
“Father, thank you for the truth of Romans 8. How reassuring it is to me to know that I’m Yours forever.”
Oh, yes, Bill, I agree! What security there is in that! I think people do not really understand God’s commitment to us due to relating God to their human relationships, which do get severed, which do give up on us. There is nothing – N.O.T.H.I.N.G. that equals God’s Love for us and His Covenant-commitment to us. Hallelujah!
You got it Diane! You understand the whole point of the devo.
The comfort and security of knowing that God’s love is will never fail, will never leave, will never run out, will never dry up. That hopefully will help us take on another day.
Great encouragement this morning!
Glad I could do that Ryan. It certainly was to me.
Knowing God is always there for us is so comforting, Bill.
Blessings!
So true Martha. I pray you will experience that in spades as you visit your mom.
