I’m reading a book entitled The Gospel-Shaped Leader by Scott Thomas. In his chapter on Gospel-Shaped Leaders Love the Church, he includes a story of Leonardo da Vinci. Here is the story:
Da Vinci invited a friend to offer critique of his masterpiece of the Last Supper. The friend remarked, ‘The most striking thing in the painting is the cup!’ Da Vinci immediately took his brush and wiped out the cup and said, ‘Nothing in my painting shall attract more attention than the face of my Master!’ (p.100)
What good words for us to think about as we begin our week. Nothing in our ministry, our daily walk, our interaction with people should attract more attention than the love we have for Jesus. N.O.T.H.I.N.G.
“Father, may all I do, say or think today not detract from seeing Jesus lived out in my life. Help me not to be a distraction or a detraction for people seeing the face of Jesus in me.”
I caught that in your church service/sermon. I need to show His face more often!
Thanks for listening in Ed!
Wow! That is a sermon! Thanks, Bill!
Thanks Diane. I hope it was for the people who listened too!
Haven’t caught your sermon yet, but sounds like I need to 🙂
Can’t disagree with remarks about detracting from seeing Jesus.
I actually shared these thoughts during my Communion thought Ryan. But you can listen away!! 🙂
What an amazing story, Bill! May our lives point to Jesus and not to ourselves.
Blessings!
I was struck by it martha. Hope you and Danny are enjoying your time away.
